Laos: Luang Prabang

Our crew is getting cranky and tired, so good thing that we have a slightly extended stay in Luang Prabang. Beautiful skies on the way! It is a “cool” drive, over a high pass and tough going at the top.

Our hotel is on the “other side” of the small river in town, the Nam Khan. Again, we have a small water taxi or walking bridge to make it to the primary town area. However, our hotel is the Apsara Rive Droite, and a serious step up from our normal accommodations.

Upon arrival, dinner at Tamarind restaurant - really delicious!

The next day, biking in LP! It was a bit more hairy than necessary, but still a beautiful city to investigate by bike.

And again, the coffee here is outstanding!

And more Wat visits: Wat Xiengthing.

Beautiful inside of the Wat...

Market wandering the next day.

Also, the wonderful Traditional Arts and Ethnology museum before a hike up to the top of Mount Phousi.

In LP there is a tradition of giving every morning. The monks - young and old - collect alms from the locals at dawn. We got ourselves (actually 3/5 of us did) up before dawn to experience it. It would have been fabulous had it been tourists sensitive process, but the Chinese tourists were intrusive and loud. Still, I’m glad we were up for the event.

We had Cole cross one of his bucket list - riding the elephants. So fun for him!!

Later we sped off to the beautiful Kuang Si waterfall and pools. A nice hike up is rewarded with swimming and beautiful views.

Alas we bid adieu to Cole at this point. He is returning to classes in NY and we are continuing to northern Laos.

Bye Cole! See you in a few months!
